Opportunities, Inc. of Fort Atkinson hosted a special luncheon on October 23rd to formally recognize business partners and community organizations that have advanced employment and training opportunities for individuals from a diverse background of skills and abilities. The event was in conjunction with the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, National Disability Employment Awareness Month and Wisconsin Manufacturing Month.
With over 50 businesses and organizations from around southeastern Wisconsin in attendance, keynote speaker Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch presented recognition awards to each and thanked them for their commitment. Kleefisch has been a long time supporter of the agency and their mission. She noted, “You [Opportunities, Inc.] represent something so special in Wisconsin’s workforce – a type of talent that most job creators so badly desire.” Kleefisch said to all those in the room, “You understand something about your bottom line that a lot of American companies don’t quite get yet, and that is that Americans are about 87 percent more likely to patronize a business with the type of HR practices that you employ every day. Having so many business leaders in the room today proves to me that Opportunities, Inc.’s business model is in fact respected and admired across the state.”
The lieutenant governor surprised the staff at Opportunities, Inc. with a certificate from the state that congratulated the agency for “their outstanding service promoting community employment aspirations for all our citizens.”
The partnerships recognized for their commitment to establish, enhance and expand the agency’s mission included: MasterMold, Glenn’s Market and Catering, Hi-Way Harry’s Steakhouse, Shopko, Thompson Correctional Center, Workforce Development Board of South Central Wisconsin, Department of Workforce Development/DVR, Fort HealthCare, Standard Process, Pick ‘n Save, Waukesha County Department of Health Services, Ball Corporation, St. Vincent de Paul of Fort Atkinson, Kwik Trip, Nasco, Sheraton Madison Hotel, Wisconsin Packaging, West Wood Health and Fitness Center, Willis of Wisconsin, Deerfield Community School District, Milwaukee County House of Correction, Holiday Inn Express and Suites Fort Atkinson, PendaForm, Nestle Purina PetCare, and Best Events Catering.
