Community engagement is one of Opportunities Inc. mission focused initiatives. It’s social enterprising divisions, including Packaging and Assembly Services, Print Services, and Staffing Services (called Diversified Personnel Services) are committed to this vision as well and promote many programs and organizations throughout Southeastern Wisconsin.

Recently, Diversified Personnel Services (DPS) celebrated their second year of sponsoring the Jefferson County Teen Day Broadcasting Program. The program is for area youth to learn firsthand about the world of radio. It’s co-sponsored by 91.7 The Edge WSUW-FM on the UW-Whitewater campus, The Jefferson County Daily Union, Wisconsin Broadcasters Association and Ripped Marketing Group.

While DPS supports the vision of Teen Day financially, Fort Atkinson native, Dan Pettegrew, approached Opportunities, Inc. at the onset of his idea for Teen Day in 2012 because of the agency’s work with youth in the area and hoped to recruit students with broadcasting interest. Orion Schuyler-Duncan, then a student in the agency’s Youth Apprenticeship Program, was hesitant at first, but would later become one of the first students to participate in Teen Day. He enjoyed it so much that upon graduation he became an assistant to the program and has been helping ever since.

As part of the programs’ events and campaigns, Orion has taken a lead in supporting the local A Team Wisconsin chapter by organizing interviews with A TEAM families at their grassroots events and by creating public announcements for their Voice Your Choice campaigns. Self-advocates, family members and guardians are speaking out on the protection of a full array of employment and day services and settings for individuals with disabilities.

DPS is thrilled to be a sponsor of the Teen Day Broadcasting Program. By seeing firsthand the growth and experience that Orion has received from the program, they are proud to help make an impact for our area youth!
