Opportunities, Inc. partnered with Fort Atkinson Police Department recently to enhance their Success through Safety Program with training to promote safety and respect in the work place. Officer Dan Hefty, who also leads the community’s DARE Program, joined the agency in training over 80 participants about work place violence, harassment, and discrimination, along with the consequences of these actions from a law enforcement standard.
Not only was it important for participants to understand the expectations of a respectful work environment, but to realize that the police are here to help anyone through a situation where they feel threatened or bullied. Officer Hefty encouraged everyone to speak up and to not be afraid. It was a positive message that exemplified the strong presence the Fort Atkinson Police Department has in the community.
Emily H., program participant, stated, “Individuals need to be reminded to pay attention to what they are doing. Trainings help us to learn.” Linda W. also noted, “Safety in the workplace is very important to us and Officer Hefty did a great job.”
Program participants expressed their appreciation for his valuable advice and visit by presenting him with a thank you card. Opportunities, Inc. also recognized Officer Hefty with a Community Service Award.
